Truck Bed Rack

Sam designed, prototyped, tested, and produced this rack for his personal use on his Toyota Tacoma.Problem:
Bed racks are expensive, especially ones built to coexist with a roll-up bed cover. Additionally, the solutions in the market never quite work for everybody’s individual needs. Drawing inspiration from current solutions but adapting to an individual use case, how can we design and execute a rack that can be made at a prototype level but function like a production-level product, while beating the price?Result:
The rack (qty 1) has been produced in powder coated steel and aluminum. It is currently installed and utilized frequently, for 25% less monetary investment than a comparable retail product.Concept 01

After consideration of bend consistency, load bearing, and tolerancing, the bracket concept was revisited and simplified. The change increased steel gauge, moved to 90-degree bends, and added significant rigidity.
